The short answer is probably not. From what all of the Monarch Water Softener reviews say, including this one, they don’t seem to be the best option.

The truth is that Hydro Flask and Klean Kanteen are virtually identical in many ways. A lot of people can’t find the difference, which is why we’ve chosen to break it down for you to help you avoid wasting money!

Which Is More Durable?

Winner: Hydro Flask

Why? Because Hydro Flask comes with a 64 ounce insulted stainless steel growler water bottle. This 64 ounce hydro flask growler is a tank when compared to bottles from other brands.

Because both bottles are made of the same materials, their durability is more or less the same. However, in my experience with Klean Kanteens, I have found their loop cap sometimes has problems forming a leak-proof seal after prolonged use. Usually, the plastic inside the lid deforms a bit and the result is an insulated bottle that does not seal as well as it once did. This has never been the case with Hydro Flasks, which in my opinion has a better design for the cap and the screw mechanism. It’s much more durable and is yet to warp or distort over time. Which does not mean that the Hydro Flask lid can not be deformed or worn out, but I am yet to experience this.

Apart from the lid, the bottles themselves are incredibly hard and although I have managed to damage them a bit. I have never broken one or put it out of action.

Which Has The Best Insulation?

Winner? Draw

I’m lucky enough to own both the Hydro Flask and Klean Kanteen. And I honestly can not say much about the difference between their insulation factor.Both work remarkably well in isolation at both ends of the temperature spectrum. This is more or less what one expects since the Hydro Flask and the Klean Kanteen use the same type of double wall insulation and both are made of stainless steel.

The insulation offered by both Klean Kanteen and Hydro Flask is excellent.

The double-walled vacuum construction made of stainless steel guarantees virtually no heat transfer from the contents of the bottle to the outside. This means that everything you put in remains at the same temperature. But it also means the surface of the bottle never gets too hot or cold. Even if your vacuum flask is full of boiling hot water, the outside remains cold.

If all you are looking for is insulation, either flask will do the job. Fortunately, no matter which option you choose, the results are pretty much the best you’ll get in the market.

The only way Hydro Flask slightly eclipses Klean Kanteen is with its new Cap Flex offering. This introduces a technology called “Honey Comb” insulation to catch air and reduce heat transfer. However, this is only for newer models and doesn’t come with the older classic models. So if insulation is your biggest priority then try the Flex Cap Hydro Flask. Both Klean Kanteen and Hydro Flask are available in several varieties to better suit your daily needs. And each variety offers great ease of use. I tend to prefer wide mouth water bottles to make it easier to put ice cubes or even fruits. Fortunately both Klean Kanteen and Hydro Flask are available in wide mouth varieties.

Personally, I feel that a bottle of water isolated from a narrow mouth is a missed opportunity. But if for some reason that’s what you’re looking for, check out the narrow mouth of Klean Kanteen or Narrow Mouth Hydro Flask. These narrow-mouth options feature a slimmer profile, which is ideal if you’re looking for something that suits a cup holder or to minimize the footprint in a backpack.

All varieties of Hydro Flask and Klean Kanteen are quite comparable. They have very similar shapes, size options and are equally easy to clean and fill (read my water bottle cleaning guide if you need help in the cleaning department). Therefore I make this a draw.

Which Has The Best Form?

Winner: Klean Kanteen

Both Hydro Flask and Klean Kanteen have some smart and visually appealing designs. In terms of visual diversity, Klean Kanteen bottles offer a wider choice and often makes water bottles of limited shared brands. For instance, the limited edition Jack Johnson Klean Kanteen.

Perhaps some of the Klean Kanteen basics are not as attractive as the basic and colorful design of the Hydro Flask, but the aesthetic diversity in the form of a joint brand and different designs is much broader in the Klean Kanteen catalog. The Klean Kanteen Tkwide is particularly popular. This wide mouth bottle has garnered a lot of fame, and for good reason. It’s good looking, has a great design, and definitely has good form compared to the Hydro Flask wide mouth.

Given that Klean Kanteen offers a bit more options when it comes to choosing the look of the bottle, I make them the winner for this category. 

Which Has The Best Accessories?

Winner: Hydro Flask

Why? Because the Hydro Flask has lots of accessories including straw lids for wide mouth insulated stainless steel bottles. 

When it comes to accessories, we finally have a pretty clear winner. Where the Hydro Flask has spawned a healthy accessory catalogue, the Klean Kanteen is relatively sterile for accessory options. Do not get me wrong, there are some nice items for Klean Kanteen but there’s not much on offer.

On the contrary, it seems that the manufacturers have thought of almost all options for Hydro-Flask accessories. Whether it’s something as simple as a straw top or one of the many bottle holders designed for Hydro Flask, there’s a wide variety and there always seems to be something new.

If you want to customize your Hydro Flask by giving it a personal touch or looking for some other features, then take a look at the wide selection of Hydro Flask accessories.

 Which Is The Most Leakproof?

Winner: Hydro Flask

I would never consider Klean Kanteen or Hydro Flask as “leaking water bottles”. But when it comes to rigidity, I’ve never found anything that works as well as the Hydro Flask. Yes, the Klean Kanteens are leak-proof. They have a good seal and come with a proper grip that works very well. But as I mentioned in the section that talks about durability, the plastic caps used in Klean Kanteens can sometimes deform after a prolonged use and the quality of the seal decreases.

In general, I have direct experience that the lid of the Hydro Flask is easier to screw. I never had a problem with the spills while using the Hydro Flask, no matter how carelessly I screwed on the lid.

Which Is Has The Better Price?

Winner: Klean Kanteen

Many people could see this debate and think, “Well if they’re both alike then I’ll just by the cheapest one!” If you’re thinking this way then the Klean Kanteen is the winner. But remeber that for many models, the price is quite competitive. Take, for example, the 20-ounce wide mouth of Klean Kanteen, which is approximately $21. Hydro Flask does not offer a 20-ounce wide mouth, but the 18-ounce wide-mouth Hydro Flask also costs around $21.

Klean Kanteen also offers a more savings across its entire range when compared to Hydro Flask. So, if your goal is to save money then go down the Klean Kanteen route.

Is Klean Kanteen Lead-Free​?

Yes! Klean Kanteen bottles are completely lead-free. They’re made from high-quality, food-grade stainless steel, which is non-toxic and entirely free from harmful chemicals such as lead, BPA, and phthalates. Klean Kanteen is known for using safe materials in their products, to ensure that they’re completely safe for every day use.

Are Hydro Flasks Dishwasher Safe​?

Yes! Hydro Flasks are dishwasher safe. However, it’s recommended that you place them on the top rack of the dishwater to avoid any potential damage to the exterior or the powder coat on your bottle. Over time, putting your Hydro Flask in the dishwasher a lot can cause the bottle’s finish to wear off, but the overall structure will remain in tact. An interesting and relatively little known option is MiiR: It is quite similar to Hydro Flasks in terms of form, design, function and has a similar price range. They offer slim 24-ounce narrow-mouth bottles as well as large, elegant 64-ounce ones.

Another interesting option is Quench 32oz: An excellent and highly functional double-walled stainless steel bottle with vacuum insulation. It’s also a little cheaper than a Hydro Flask, but at the price of a Klean Kanteen.

As you can see in the numbers, this is a very close one.

Issues With Blk Water

The issues with Blk water are best laid out by Dr Christine Gerbstadt, M.D. She is a a registered dietitian and the author of the popular book “Doctors Detox Diet”. Her arguments against Blk water are as follows:

A herbal diet provides the same phytonutrients that the black water supposedly has, along with the added soluble and insoluble fiber. In addition, herbal foods fill you up and help you lose pounds.

There is no quick fix to a bad diet. And nothing transports nutrients better into the cells of your body than real food. On the positive side, blk water will not hurt you and it looks good. But you can get the same from water that is from your filtered faucet.

The addition of these two acids to water in no way improves the nutritional benefits of water.

The company boasts that the water contains humus and fulvic acid (in the soil, in sediments and waters). But humans, do not need either fulvic or humic acid.

…And The Biggest Issue of Them All

Here lies the biggest issue with what my blk water review centers around: the human body does not require humic acid or fulvic acid. So buying this water to simply consume these two acids will in no way enhance the nutritional benefits of drinking it.

What Is Blk Water?

Blk water stands for black water and includes enhanced acids that make the water appear black in color. It looks more like Coke or Pepsi but the people behind it promise us that it is in fact water but much better. This ‘black’ color comes from the fulvic and humic acid that it contains. Humic acid is typically found in soil, aquatic, and sediment environments.

It is the creation of the members of the Manzo family.

If the name Manzo sounds familiar, it’s because they are a reality TV show celebrity family. This is because they were part of the original Real Housewives of New Jersey cast.

The Manzo creation called “Blk”, stands for black water and so far has many celebrity fans. In fact, it’s reportedly made an appearance in the Emmy Prize gift bag.

Most “new” water offerings are usually slightly sweetened water, for instance, HINT. But Blk is not promoted as a revamp on “boring” water, it is instead supposed to be a “healthier” version of water.

“Healthier” because it has more minerals and nutrients than regular water. So healthy in fact that it’s black instead of the regular transparent-looking water.

There are some experts who argue that Blk is more of a trick than a gift from heaven. This is because water does a pretty excellent job of hydrating and giving the body everything it needs all by itself.

Everything from its minimalist design to celebrity creators screams gimmick. But is this really the case?

Although Blk looks like muddy water, it isn’t. The dark color comes from the humic acid and fulvic acid that it contains.

These acids come from things like biodegradation of organic matter that is dead. They are also the result of things like extra electrolytes and antioxidants.

According to the water brand’s own site, the Blk water offering is “an innovation of nature and science”.

It is very popular with health-conscious people and celebrities. Especially as its owners are celebrities themselves from the Real Housewives of New Jersey.

So the bottom line is that even though it looks like soy sauce, it is water. Water that is enriched with supposedly healthy acids for your body.

Is Blk water alkaline?

Yes, it is.

This is also why it’s able to call itself alkaline water.

As has already been mentioned in this Blk water review so far, the dark color of the water comes from the extra acids added. These acids are the result of things like bio-degradation of dead organic matter (hmm doesn’t that just sound yummy?).

The claim is that this product provides your body with a large amount of electrolytes and minerals. This means that it helps to balance the pH of the human body.

Although this is widely disputed by experts.

The owners also claim that it’s a great handover cure it’s able to quickly deliver nutrients to the cells in your body. This claim is also disputed as will be discussed in the following section.

Blk Water Price

Buying the Blk premium alkaline water infused with fulvic trace miners 16.9 ounces in a pack of 24 will set you back around $40.

While a single 16.9-ounce bottle is around $4 (in stores) and $7 (if purchased online).

When it comes to taste, the vast majority of people say that it tastes just like water.

This is judging by the hundreds of reviews online. Most people love it, others hate it and a significant proportion think it is downright funny.

One Blk water customer says, “It tastes just like water, but it has a dirty aftertaste and it has a really very warm taste.” While many others talk about a “Clean taste”.

The best way to know what Blk water tastes like? Buy it and judge for yourself as we all have different tastes.

My Blk Water Review – Is Black Water Drink Worth It?

No.

Well not really but worth trying if you are curious and have some spare cash.

For something that most of us can get for free by simply going to the kitchen tap, the market for bottled water is huge.

In 2013, Choice reported that the industry for bottled water has a value of $500 million a year.

And this number only seems to be growing every year with new brands appearing on the shelves of supermarkets.

Blk is just an example of one of the latest water brands popping up to take advantage of the new health craze surrounding water.

However, there is no doubt in my mind that Blk water is a legitimate artesian natural alkaline mineral water that is fully loaded with humic and fulvic acids.

The health claims by the owners behind it may be spurious but it does not contain any calories, sugars, sweeteners, carbohydrates, or anything artificial. So it will do you no harm health-wise.

If you have extra money and want to invest in something that is guaranteed to hydrate you and may have some extra health benefits then you should try Blk water.

Also, prices are not shown upfront and you need to schedule a professional (salesperson?) to come and give you a “demonstration”. This might make some people feel uncomfortable and means you may be charged more since the prices are not fixed. Meanwhile, you can go online today, see better products for a fixed price, and purchase at a click of a button without a sales visit.

I have also been contacted by many people who said they felt under pressure to sign up for a contract immediately and they deeply regretted it later.

Many people are pressured to accept Culligan’s offer because of things like free installation and lifetime warranty but these things come as standard with most modern whole house systems (e.g. this). There are also many companies that will provide you with an installation kit along with a detailed installation manual/online video so that you can save money and install the machine yourself OR they can suggest preferred plumbers in your zip code.

Why Culligan Might Be WORTH It?

Buying Culligan home water treatment system can have some advantages:

According to the many reports and feedback I have gathered, most complaints are about how complex the device is.

Of course, this is to be expected as Culligan water softeners are some of the most advanced softening systems in the world.

However, the very features intended to make the product helpful also seem to cause the most problems for its users.

Culligan Water Softeners Are Very Expensive.

Understandably, many people are annoyed about the high prices. Culligan addresses this by offering flexible payment terms.

Word also has it that the company is considering making more affordable and budget-friendly products in the future.

Culligan Water Softeners Are NOT DIY-Friendly.

One of the important issues that I would be remiss if I didn’t mention in this Culligan water softener review is that they’re not DIY-friendly. This is important because many customers wish to save money by installing water-softening systems themselves.

Culligan prefers that their expert engineer and service people deal with any maintenance issues with their machines.

Customers find it very difficult to maintain their devices because they have complicated systems.

The fact that you need qualified service personnel to maintain your system means that Culligan has a slightly higher operating cost when compared to other water softener brands.

Therefore, I highly recommend that you comprehensively study their products and units so that you make the right choice. And are fully aware of what the likely operating costs are.
