Hi Ann

I actually agree with that sentiment especially when it comes to the cheaper shower head filters you get on places like Amazon.

The AQ-4100 I review in this article actually has NSF certifications to prove it filters what it claims it does.

However, it will not filter anything close to what a whole house filter can do, which is why I end the article recommending that people who want a serious treatment of their water get a whole house filter like the one from Aquasana.

I contacted the company that provided my reverse osmosis system to purchase a shower filter. The rep said they don’t sell them as they don’t work. He said it would be impossible for that much water to go through something that small and still be effective after a few days. He said they’re just a gimmick and the only reliable way to get clean shower water is through a whole house system. I was wondering what you think of shower filters generally. Are they useless after a few days?

Hi Cherie

There are lots of cheap tests on places like Amazon. However, I personally prefer a lab test because they are more accurate and give certified results.

I found this interesting thread about the legality (or otherwise) of introducing chloramines into the UK drinking water supply. It seems they add ammonia AND chlorine to the water, the result is chloramines in the water, but they claim not to have introduced chloramine into the water!

In reply to Laura L..

Hi Laura

I have not personally tried Aquabliss but I am becoming less and less convinced by that style of shower filter. Amazon is full of them and they all seem to have excellent reviews but the problem is that most people don't use a water test kit to see if the filter actually works and typically give good reviews based on how easy it is to install and how good they look.

I tried one of those types of shower filters (from Amazon) and my test kit showed that it made NO difference to the water quality so I threw it away and demanded a refund.

All I would say is have a water test kit to make sure whatever you buy actually works.

Best wishes,
Luke

In reply to MamaMe.

Hi Cece

Glad you found the Sonaki inline worked well for you.

There are other shower filters that promise to remove both chlorimaimes and contaminants like the pH Energize. But personally I'm very suspicious of the low price point and mixed reviews.

You might want to try a more comprehensive shower filter like Aquasana Shower Filters. Although it doesn't specifically target everything you want, it's actually a proper filter so will treat your water. The cheap Chinese import shower filters that flood Amazon sound good in writing but don't actually effectively treat water in my experience.

If you decide to go with Aquasana then use coupon code: AQGEEK50, I believe this will give you free shipping (and 50% OFF more expensive products).

Hope this helps,
Luke

I know I'm a little late to reply, but the Sonaki worked great for us. However, we forgot to remove it from our last rental and I have to buy another one! Lame. But I'm looking at stacking another filtration system onto the Sonaki so we're not just removing chloramine, but also the other contaminants. I'd heard rumors that there was a shower filter out there that did both, but I'm beginning to think it's a unicorn.

Hi Cece
Not a problem.
I think you are right, a Vitamin C shower filter like the SONAKI Inline is your best bet for removing choloramines.

After more research I think you might disregard my last question because I am pretty sure the water here in the LA area uses Chloramines instead of Chlorine. The last report of 2017 said it had Chlorine but their website says they are switching to Chloramine and the entire city will be maybe even the state is moving to Chloramines. So all the filters listed and that I last mentioned do not seem to work for Choloramines although they would work for the other metals and VOCs and softening the water. So now Im looking at Vitamin C filters which seem to be the only option for filtering Chloramine. Are their any you would recommend?

Hi thanks for the reply I am wondering if the Jonathon will be discontinued the website from the company doesn't have anything. But you do think it filters more and better then the Aquasana? I am also looking at the Aquabliss 12 stage and wondering how you would compare to these?

Hi Cece

Well done on having the foresight to get your water tested to see what you need the filter to do, most people don't do that!
From what I understand the Jonathan Product doesn't have carbon filters but it does have carbonized coconut shells which is very similar to activated carbon filters.

It can remove synthetic chemicals and toxic heavy metals and the result is pH balanced spring water.

Hope this helps,
Luke

It can remove synthetic chemicals and toxic heavy metals and the result is pH balanced spring water.

Hope this helps,
