Do you know of any testing of the AquaPure filters at the 5,000 gallon mark or even 3,000 or 1,000? Are there any charts that show the average decline in effectiveness over time? Are there any home tests, like Berkey’s Red Dye test, that will indicate continued effectiveness?

In reply to Wendy Price. Your best bet is to carry your filter with you. That will ensure that the water is fresh and the filters remain moist. Remove the filters and lay them on the bottom of the tank to prevent snapping them off at the base. Besides, you want to filter your water at home also don't you?

In reply to Wendy Price. Hi Wendy, Berkey suggests removing the filters from the tank if you're away longer than a few days. They suggest removing and storing them in ziploc bags in the refrigerator and then re-priming them before re-installing in the Berkey. Not sure how long they can be safely stored this way though.

Hi, I purchased the Alexapure in 2020 and I am extremely happy with it. Our tap water tastes horrible and bottled water doesn’t taste much better. So, I purchased the Alexapure and extra filters. The water tastes great and Alexapure has more than paid for itself in less than two years.

I highly recommend it.

Luke, my question is, does it hurt the filter if you have a Salt water Softner for your harm.

Hi Luke!
Firstly – thank you SO much for this site. A great help in making a decision. I’m leaning toward the Berkey, a friend has one and I’m very impressed at the “clean” taste of the water overall. However – my concerns are that they don’t provide a data sheet, so how do we “know” it does as they claim? Also, does the Berkey remove Glyphosate?

I’ve been drinking and cooking with distilled water for many years. I decided to purchase the Alexapure on top of what I was already doing to be sure I was using clean water. I filter the water with Alexapure and then distill that water that just got filtered. I was astonished that my distiller had a lot more residue at the bottom when I started using the Alexapure filtered water than when I was simply using tap water. Something doesn’t add up.

What is meant by your suggestion to “change filters regularly” on the AlexaPure system. If each filter filters 5,000 gallons, what is a “regular” schedule for changing filter?

Hi Kat

It is my understanding that you only need the special filters for extra fluoride and arsenic protection. Everything else (like lead and chlorine) should be covered by the regular Berkey filter cartridges.

When you say the Berkey filters 99.9% of lead. That means with the extra lead and chlorine filters correct? How much does it filter without the extra filters? Same question for the chlorine please.
